How Long Does it Take?

Note: your schedule may differ from the below due to MANY different factors:
One of our most frequently asked questions is, "When will I have my website up and running?" Of course, many factors play into site design, but for most clients, we can hammer out a schedule and nail it as soon or sooner than planned. Most debilitating factors stem from the client having another hosting or domain name registration service, which isn't an automatic problem, but it can sometimes delay the process for days or even weeks. Many hosting companies and domain name registrars are less than cooperative when it comes to working with other web designers. Some ignorantly demand all-or-nothing with the people who sign up with them.

[Week 1] Power Tie Begins
After we receive the initial payment, we begin taking care of some "back end" technical details, such as server configuration and domain name purchase/administration. We may do some preliminary competitive research or design work, but technical setup typically demands disappointing amounts of downtime. Also, during this time, we are structuring our work schedule to coincide your project with other projects, so that we may devote a fair amount of time to your website while completing any ongoing projects that may still be in queue.

[Week 2] Your Basic Site is Born
Assuming all things have worked out accordingly, our server is configured for your site, your domain name is configured properly, and most of the preliminary requirements are well out of the way. We then unveil a foundational "shell" or mockup design of the site you desire (based on both of our perspectives of the project). (Without tooting our own horn, our clients are usually VERY happy with what we turn out at this point.) Nevertheless, from here on, you can direct design changes as long as they fit within the initial parameters set out in the project worksheet.

[Week 3] An Internet Presence is Born
It's within the 3rd week that your company typically sees some real website action. This is the time where you see most of your website's content and web future taking shape. We establish your most prominent keywords that will be used in our Search Engine program, we have hammered out most if not all of your website's text, and we have a solid design that we are both happy with. The Search Engine program has begun, your website is mostly operational, and any back end technical mumbo-jumbo has been sorted out. From here on, we hear from you and your peers on what you like and don't like. We then spend the ensuing weeks perfecting the site's design and layout.

[Week 4] A Great Website Comes Alive
By the end of the 4th week, we can see your site in it's final stages, however, you may still have months left to direct and perfect the content. This allows you to "take a breather" from the excitement and just let your site do its thing. The Search Engines are indexing it, you're now marketing the site, people are giving you feedback on it...things are happening with your new website. It's at this point that you can officially back away from the site's progress and let its own capabilities manifest themselves.

[Week 5, 6, and on] You Perfect the Web Design
For the duration of the contract period, you are the one calling the web design shots. You are doing normal business while still handling any new website business. People are contacting you from your website and asking questions or even buying your products or services. You can now see where we may have missed some information or where we have added too much information, and we then change your site accordingly. We optimize your website's content to give your potential clients every inspiration to contact you.

[Summary] What Just Happened...
You have just (unknowingly) accepted the greatest truth about website marketing:
A website is a place for people to believe that they are getting information about you and your company ON THEIR TERMS. If they wanted to just be sold on something, they would have called you to meet with them. But the fact is, they want to know the TRUTH, or at least believe they do, before they talk to any "slick" or "pushy" salesman. They want to be comfortable that they know what to ask and what to expect before they even let you in their doors. If you have read most of this thus far, you have heard most of our "sales pitch." There are a few details of ours that may change things, and your company certainly has its own uniqueness, but for the most part, you can see what we do and how we do it. You have (unknowingly) become familiar with our VERY SUCCESSFUL "sales approach." (Fortunately for our clients, it is a very honest and reliable process, but I think you detected that.)
